Cruise Ship Crewmember Sex Offenders
October 2000
A female passenger, 12, says she was sexually assaulted by Daniel J. Hanoian, 30 who worked as a Youth Activities Coordinator aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines' Norway.
The girl was on a week-long Caribbean cruise with her family when the attack took place.
After the attack it was learned that Hanoian had a criminal history of prior arrests and never should have been hired in the first place, had a proper background check been completed by Norwegian Cruise Lines before Hanoian was hired.
Hanoian was immediately arrested, and ultimately charged with sexual assault of a minor on board a cruise ship. He pleaded guilty to the charge in Miami, Florida.
The family filed a law suit, in Dade Circuit Court, in June 2001 charging that Norwegian was negligent in hiring Daniel J. Hanoian; in failing to supervise and train him; and in failing to offer proper security on the ship.
Hanoian is a registered sex offender in Fresno, California now, under the name Danny John Hanoian. He was convicted under 288a LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH CHILD UNDER 14 YEARS
