A cruise ship passenger charged in August with six felony sex crimes against a 15-year-old boy will be required to live in Washington state for the next five years, according to court records.

John T. Johnson, 61, of Pacific, Wash., agreed to plead guilty to a single felony count of first-degree indecent exposure. A Ketchikan grand jury indicted him on two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, one count of attempted first-degree sexual assault and one count of attempted second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Following the terms of Johnson's plea agreement, Superior Court Judge Patricia Collins permitted the time Johnson has been held since his Aug. 25, 2003 arrest in Skagway as his jail time. She sentenced him to five years in prison, but suspended all but 100 days.

As conditions of his five-year probation, he will be required to live in Washington, have no contact with the victim or victim's family and comply with sex offender registration laws for 15 years.

John T. Johnson, 61, of Pacific, Wash., was brought into court from the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without an attorney. He is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a minor and single counts of attempted first-degree sexual assault and attempted second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Collins told Johnson that the preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday won't be necessary. A Ketchikan grand jury indicted Johnson last week. The maximum prison sentence for each of the first-degree sexual assault charges would be 30 years, she added.

A Ketchikan grand jury returned a six-count indictment against a Washington state man, alleging he forced sexual relations on a 15-year-old boy while aboard a cruise ship near Juneau.

The boy was taken to Bartlett Regional Medical Center on Monday where he was examined for evidence of sexual assault, according to Juneau court records. The boy told his grandmother Monday morning that a man in the sauna had forced sexual activity with him. The grandmother notified ship security.

Tuesday, the grandmother called Alaska State Troopers to say the boy had seen the man from the sauna elsewhere on the ship. The man was identified as Johnson, who troopers arrested Tuesday night in Skagway.
