George Lucas Wicker, age 21, from New York, was on the Disney Wonder, where his accuser alleges a sexual assault took place. The accuser, a 13-year-old girl who is a Canadian citizen living with her parents in the U.S. reported a sexual assault, while the Wonder was still at sea.
According to the child, she was leaving the teen club with a group of other children here age, when Wickes told her to come with him so he could show her something on a lower deck.
The girl says that she thought Wickes worked for security aboard the ship. She refused, and says he then threatened to throw her overboard, if she did not go with him. After that, the girl says, she was sexually assaulted.
A spokesperson for the cruise line said the allegations were first reported to security personnel on the ship, who notified the FBI. The spokesperson said the FBI gave them guidance on what do while they were still at sea and, when the ship arrived in Nassau on Tuesday, the Bahamian police took over the investigation.
A few week later, accross the sea, the FBI was still at work trying to get a conviction. Wickes finally pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact on the high seas, a felony, before U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer, in order to avoid a 45-year-sentence, then facing only a 10-year-sentence. Wickes will become a registered sex offender.
Wickes admitted to federal agents that he had sexual contact with the 13-year-old girl but allegedly said it was consensual and that he believed the girl was 17.
Wickes was sentenced to 46 months in prison for abusive sexual contact on February 11, 2011, involving a child aboard the cruise ship Disney Wonder, after pleading guilty said Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee. He placed the minor in fear that she would be subjected to serious bodily injury.
The conviction took the FBI over four years to get, an outrageous amount of time for this child to get justice.
When he has served his time, he will be registered as a sex offender in his home state, which at the time of his conviction is New York.
