A cruise ship employee was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexually abusing a minor, Alaska State Troopers said.
The alleged incident took place aboard the cruise ship Galaxy early Monday morning after the ship left Juneau. It was reported to Alaska State Troopers on Monday evening.
Troopers arrested Ozcar Sirin, 24, of Turkey when the vessel docked in Ketchikan on Wednesday. Sirin was a waiter aboard the vessel. His hometown was not known.
He was being held in the Ketchikan Correctional Center today awaiting charges of third-degree sexual assault and kidnapping, said trooper Sgt. Kurt Ludwig.
The victim was a 13-year-old girl who was a passenger aboard the vessel, Ludwig said.
The Galaxy is owned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, whose president is touring Southeast this week answering questions about pollution from the line's ships.
Sirin's arrest comes a month after Royal Caribbean settled a lawsuit brought by the family of a 15-year-old Canadian boy who said he was sexually assaulted by a crew member the previous year. Terms were not disclosed.
