Hendri Dharmawan, 29, a crew member aboard Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Triumph, was arrested Tuesday, September 1,  2009, while the ship was docked at Pier 22 at the Halifax, Nova Scotia waterfront.

Dharmawan is said to be from Indonesia and was in possession of child pornography on his personal computer when Canadian police arrested him.

He was arraigned in Halifax provincial court September 2, 2009 on a Customs Act charge of smuggling child pornography into the country.

On September 4, 2009, investigators added a Criminal Code charge of possession of child pornography.

It is unclear how Dharmawan came to possess the photographs, if they were of children from passengers who were aboard the ship, came from children who lived in ports of calls, from his hometown, or if he might have gotten them from another crew member or passenger while aboard the Triumph.

Triumph left New York City on Saturday, August 29, 2009. She then stopped at Saint John, New Brunswick the next day, before going to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada the following day.

The ship had been sailing that route since June 7, 2009. Before that, the ship sailed to Norfolk,Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to the New York City home port, the ship was based in  Miami, Florida, taking cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean in general.

Caribbean nations included the American territories of the U.S. Virgin Island and Puerto Rico.

Dharmawan was in custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia until his next court appearance September 11, 2009.

On September 11, 2009 Hendri pled guilty to the charge.
