Horace Linton Brown, age 38, of Clinton, Maryland, was sentenced to six months in prison followed by two years of supervised release for escaping from federal custody after being convicted and sentenced for possessing child pornography.

Judge Messitte ordered that the six month sentence imposed be served consecutive to the four year sentence imposed for possession of child pornography.

At sentencing, Judge Messitte ordered Brown to self-surrender in 30 days at a federal facility designated by the Bureau of Prisons.

On October 20, 2006 the U.S. Marshals Service sent Brown a letter via certified mail indicating the prison to which he was to report no later than 12:00 p.m. on October 25.

On October 25, the agency monitoring Brown’s electronic confinement received an alert indicating that Brown’s transmitter was disconnected at 1:08 a.m.

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Brown in Maryland on November 21, 2006. Brown had booked a cruise aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's  Freedom of the Seas.

It is suspected that Brown was attempting to the flee the country and not return because Freedom Of The Sea was due to depart Miami, Florida on December 3, 2006. One of the scheduled cruise stops was in Jamaica. Brown was a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Jamaica.

January 10, 2008 Brown appealed his conviction, but the conviction and sentence was upheld.

He is being held at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey and is due for release on October 20, 2010.
