Roger Perreault, 49 formerly of New Bedford, Massachusetts, later of Clayville, Rhode Island was caught entering the port of Boston, Massachusetts on June 29, 2008 aboard Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Dream with child pornography and was charged with knowingly possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

At the hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that in 2006 and 2007, Roger Perreault, had been identified in an ICE investigation targeting individuals who had purchased access to pay-for-membership web sites of child pornography.

Based on that information, Roger Perreault, was flagged for inspection and his computer was inspected. ICE officials located a number of images of child pornography on PERREAULT’s laptop computer.

Court documents also noted that Perreault, is a registered sex offender, and had previously been convicted in Massachusetts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a child under the age of 14, in 2000 in New Bedford.

The conviction for Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child Under 14, were for victims that were 9-12 year old female and male known to the offender.

At the time of the border search, Perreault, was arriving from a trip with his wife and his wife’s two young children.

At his initial appearance in federal court today, Perreault, pled not guilty and the government requested that Perreault, be detained pending a detention hearing. The hearing was set for July 9, 2008.

Due to his prior conviction, Perreault, faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of 30 years in prison, up to a $250,000 fine and a term of supervised release of between at least five years to life.

He is last listed as residing in Scituate, Rhode Island.
