Guillermo Orozco, 28, a Mexican citizen who resides in the Yucatan region of the country, required a Spanish-speaking interpreter at his arraignment before Juneau District Judge Peter Froehlich on a felony charge of first-degree sexual assault.
Orozco was arrested in Skagway and transported to Juneau by state troopers Thursday, according to trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson. Orozco, who had been a passenger on the Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas, is accused of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman from El Paso, Texas, while the cruise was 15 miles out of Glacier Bay, he reported.
She also said Orozco's 15-year-old brother and his 15-year-old cousin were in the room during the attack, one in the cabin's upper bunk and the other in a separate bed. She alleged the defendant called for his brother to join in, but the brother told Orozco he was "loco" and shouldn't be doing what he was doing, according to the criminal complaint.
When Orozco went to use the cabin's restroom, the alleged victim hurriedly dressed and left the room, to be found by her father and a member of the ship's security, according to the complaint.
Orozco had been scheduled to stand trial Monday on charges that he forced sexual relations on a woman July 16 in his cruise ship stateroom. Instead, he plead no contest before trial.
Orozco was sentenced to a year in jail, all but 70 days suspended, and fined him $1,000 with $500 suspended. He also placed Orozco on probation for two years and ordered the defendant to pay the victim up to $5,000 in restitution.
Orozco had already spent nearly two months in custody since being taken off the ship in July by police in Skagway
