Miami Beach police charged a cruise ship bartender on May 1, 1991 with raping a German tourist.
The German tourist had stopped police to report the attack and was being driven to the police station to file a formal report and to help police create a composite sketch.
During the ride to the police station, she saw her assailant walking to the beach.
The 25-year-old German woman told police that she met the accused rapist at the Clevelander bar, 1020 Ocean Dr., about 8:15 p.m. that night.
At about 11 p.m., the two walked to the beach at Sixth Street, where the man allegedly held her down and raped her, police said.
The cruise ship bartender was identified as Halil Tayfun Ayber, a Turkish bartender on the S.S. Meridian cruise ship.
