Cruise Ship Crewmember Sex Offenders
A Scandinavian cruise ship passenger arriving in the U.S. Virgin Islands on June 21, 1966 found out that the island is not as friendly as she might have thought.
On the first day of summer, the woman from Europe went into the port of call at the U.S. Virgin Islands alone.
The woman was accosted by two local men, and brutally raped during her tour of the town while her cruise ship was in port.
The two men arrested, tried and convicted for the offense were Ismael, Guillermon Reyes, 25 and Vidal Galion Aquino, 22.
Reyes was convicted of rape and sentenced to 7 years in prison. Aquino was convicted of accessory to rape and given 3 years in prison.
However, in giving sentences that the judge admitted was extremely lenient, Reyes was only to serve six months, with six and half years on probation and Aquion was to serve only three months, with the balance on probation.
